In partnership with the analysis places of work of UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, and WFP, UN Girls led a synthesis of 68 inter-agency joint programme evaluations on Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5, gender equality). This synthesis is a companion to “Are we getting there? A synthesis of UN system evaluations of SDG 5”, which was performed in 2023.
This new synthesis discovered that joint programmes enabled holistic and built-in approaches to deal with advanced and multidimensional gender equality points and elevated the visibility of gender points on nationwide and world agendas. Joint work helped forge new partnerships and introduced numerous actors collectively, together with civil society.
Regardless of increased transaction prices and coordination challenges, joint work enabled efficient collaboration throughout sectors. Breaking silos and fostering synergies between end result areas, workstreams, and actions remained a problem, and authorities and civil society companions had been generally overwhelmed by the calls for of partaking with multiple UN company.
Joint work requires intentionality and a transparent goal, outlined roles and tasks, and robust approaches to figuring out and integrating key populations.
